Pigeon to zespół z Berlina specjalizujący się w tworzeniu pięknych hałasów. W połowie maja 2018 roku ukazał się ich debiutancki album studyjny. Opisując swoją muzykę Pigeon orócz określeń takich jak noise, punk albo wave, mówi flennen, co po niemiecku znaczy wycie / beczenie. Ciekawe. Niech sobie więc wyją, bo wychodzi im to bardzo dobrze!

Wszystkie piosenki na tym albumie to piękny noise zmieszany z punkiem i post-punkiem. Są bardzo energetyczne, żywiołowe i ekspresyjne. Słuchając takich perełek jak Couches czy Gaping można wręcz poczuć uderzającą falę energii. Moc płynąca z tych utworów zdecydowanie imponuje. Wrażenie robi też to jak Pigeon, dzięki dobrym kompozycjom, tworzy tę moc i przy tym nie męczy. Natężenie dźwięku nie powoduje przesytu, wręcz przeciwnie – płyta kończy się za szybko. Piękno tego hałasu bardzo absorbuje. s/t rozpoczyna się małym wybuchem: przyzwyczaja ucho słuchacza występujących później na całym albumie krzyków i głośnych dźwięków. Później wokalista śpiewa, krzyczy i z pasją wypluwa z siebie słowa. Słychać maksymalne zaangażowanie, zupełnie jakby po wyśpiewaniu i wykrzyczeniu wszystkich tekstów muzyk miał się rozpłynąć się w nicość. Słowa nie tracą tu jednak na znaczeniu, choć w napływie dźwięków często są zagłuszane bądź niezrozumiałe. Czasem (na przykład w Tiny) przybierają formę dosadnego komentarza społecznego.

Twórczość Pigeon przywołuje echa takich zespołów jak Girl Band czy Iceage: wszystkie te zespoły zdołały fantastycznie połączyć noise, punk i post-punk. Surowość brzmienia Pigeon i daje wspaniały efekt: wszystko brzmi niezwykle ostro. W zachwycająco ekspresyjne Ex Pressure wkrada się niezaburzająca fali hałasu melodia. Zachwyca też bardziej melodyjna i trochę spokojniejsza Nizza, podobnie jak reszta piosenek na albumie, w tym Kinn, gdzie intro na perkusji i linia basu tworzą wyjątkową, zimną i ostrą atmosferę. To bardzo klimatyczne zakończenie niesamowicie dobrej płyty.

Debiut Pigeon to solidny, głośny, świeży, żywiołowy i spójny album. Piosenki na nim zawarte mają w sobie wiele energii i surowości. To zdecydowanie jeden z lepszych albumów wydanych w ciągu ostatnich miesięcy. Można tylko trzymać kciuki za dalszy rozwój zespołu i uważać – ta muzyka uzależnia.

Pigeon are a Berlin-based band specialized in creating beautiful noises. In mid-may 2018, the band released their self-titled debut album. On their Bandcamp page, Pigeon describe their music, among names like noise, punk, or wave,  as flennen. This, in German, could mean howling. If that is what howling is about, then let them howl!

All songs on the album indeed represent a perfect mix of noise, punk and post-punk. They are energetic, vital and expressive. One can feel the great load of energy bursting out, when listening to songs like Couches or Gaping. It is impressive how  Pigeon’s music on the album is so exuberant in the way it creates this aforementioned energy. There is no overload with sound. On the contrary – the album ends too quickly, because one is just too absorbed by the beauty of the music. s/t begins with a short outbreak of sort: it accustomes one’s ear to the screams and noises which then will  all-present throughout the album. The vocalist sings and screams and spits the words out as if it was the last thing he would do before fading into nothingness. Sometimes incomprehensible, the lyrics seem to fade away in the wave of sound, but they surely are a well-written social commentary (Tiny).

When it comes to noise, punk and post punk, Pigeon’s work echoes bands like Girl Band or Iceage. It’s an incredible blend. The sharpness of their music and the raw sound of instruments is really powerful.  A melody creeps into the overwhelmingly expressive Ex Pressure. More melodic and slightly more peaceful Nizza still amazes. Just as other songs on the album, including Kinn, where the drum intro and the bass line adroitly create a special, cold and sharp atmosphere. Climatic ending of such a powerful album.

The band recorded a solid, loud, energetic and consistent album. Possibly one of the finest albums released this year. The music on s/t is very fresh and sharp. One can only keep his / her fingers crossed for the future of Pigeon. And be careful – this music is highlu addictive.
